Two weeks ago my weekend of stressful commuting and drizzly London weather gave way to gentle bikes rides, pofferjes and cat museums (no, seriously). Apparently that’s what happens when you spend a little too long in a coffee shop…
Despite questionable afternoons spent cooing over furry animals, swapping work for a weekend in the ‘Dam was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made (apart from the time I put bacon in the mac and cheese).
If for any reason you’re planning on taking an impromptu visit to Holland, I thought I’d share a few places I visited and fell in love with.
Lloyd hotel – Our first night was spent in the most beautiful of hotel rooms. Complete with heavy oak furnishings, paint speckled floor and our very own hammock. (Ideal for post bike ride/pofferjes naps).
Morgan & Mees – Beautiful hotel/restaurant in the Jordaan area. Head here for brunch (they do a good eggs Florentine), and spend the morning admiring the monochrome décor and leafy palm fronds.
Cotton Cake – Beautiful boutique/ Café a short bike ride from the Vondelpark. Head here for coffee and gluten free cake or waffles after a canal-side sunbathe.
What I wouldn’t give to be back in that hammock with a handful of stroop waffles*
